Frequently Asked Questions Orphaned DCE dedicated servers Question: My DCE dedicated server forks servers that never go away. How do I stop this from happening? Answer: This problem of orphaned servers may be caused by using UDP instead of TCP for the protocal. Entera defaults to UDP if Protseq is not set in the servers DAP file. This was verified in a test case. In this test case the parent server was started followed by 10 clients. After all the child servers had been forked, the clients were hard killed (kill -9). This resulted in several child servers would not die on their own. The test case was then restarted using TCP and no servers were orphaned.
